RGECA 2010: GLITTER (2001)

Watched: 2/26/2011

The Reel Grit Endurance Challenge started in LA and we Austin folks finally got permission to hold our own. The basic premise is a film marathon where all the movies are generally considered awful, participants may not talk through the films, if one must use the restroom one must do so in less than a minute or be forced to stand for the remainder of the film, etc. It is exactly what its name implies. The problem is, it seems we Austinites have more tolerance for crap…

Before this started I Tweeted:

::Movie #5 is another LA pick… GLITTER. This will be a cakewalk. Nothing truly awful yet. #RGECA #fb::

During GLITTER I Tweeted:

::Dear GLITTER, please get better or worse. This slow ride on the mediocrity train is taxing at best. Love, #RGECA #fb::

When it was over I tweeted:

::There are many movies out there worse than GLITTER but I’m doubtful any will play #RGECA tonight. Boring as sin. #fb::

THIS is the kind of crap I expected from RGEC. My main problem with this movie is that it’s not really a movie. It’s a vanity project that has no progression of plot or character. Mariah is the main character but she never has any real conflict that drives the film, the conflict is with her MANAGER. So… we have a character just moving through nothingness doing nothing with no consequences or threats. Eat me, GLITTER. I hate you.
